Oak Hill senior Jack Easterling leads helpful project

By DAVID SMITH Daily Times Leader

Jack Easterling is a senior at Oak Hill Academy, and recently led a project, his Eagle project to officially become an Eagle Scout. Easterling is a member of Troop 15, which is based in West Point, and has successfully led a project that will assist many people across the county.

Easterling, along with a team of helpers, have built blessing boxes and placed them in five different spots across the county.

“I just wanted to do something that helped the community as a whole,” said Easterling. “I know there are people out there that don't have food and they need food, and I wanted to help give that to them.”

The way that the blessing boxes work is simple, anyone can contribute canned food or other food items to it, in order to assist those in need. And, if you are in need, this is a place that you can receive a true blessing, thanks to Jack Easterling.

“I wish we had more young men like him,” Clay County Supervisor Lynn D. Horton said. “To show the initiative to want to assist others in need within our community, it is truly amazing.”

The five blessing box locations with their address are listed as follows: Una Community Center (4100 Brand Una Road), Siloam voting precinct (2020 MS HWY 47), Vinton District (440 Barton Ferry Road), Tibbee Voting Precinct (3564 East Tibbee Road), and the Pheba County Shed (8721 MS HWY 50).

Easterling wanted to make sure that he stressed that he could not have done this without having an amazing team around him.

“I had a dream team,” Easterling said. “Mr. Eddie Malone, who was my carpenter, did a really great job, and he helped out a ton. The DreamCenter, by The Mission, they helped out a whole lot by donating food and money to buy more food as well. We didn't really have any big problems at all, and that is thanks to my team.”

The world needs more people like Jack Easterling.
